Web Designer/Front End Developer (WordPress)

We’re looking for a multi-talented, many-hat-wearing digital octopus* to help us build incredible websites (and lots of other things) for our clients, to make a positive impact on the world.

A Bit About Us

We’re a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with organizations who have a purpose beyond profit. We use the web to make the world a better place.

We’re a tight-knit team, and everyone works remotely. Our team is spread across the United States, in Europe, South America, and Asia. We value an ownership mentality, we’ve got each other’s backs, and we pride ourselves on our company culture. We don’t micromanage, and we’re always looking for ways to do things better.

But enough about us, let’s talk about you!

Role Overview

You’ll be working mostly in WordPress, and mostly creating websites and web apps. Sometimes you’ll design, sometimes you’ll develop (front-end), sometimes you’ll do both. You should be comfortable with everything that falls under that umbrella: Wireframes, design mockups, writing code, creating custom post types, configuring page builders, capturing dark wizards, launching sites, and all the odds and ends that come in between.

You’ll interact everyday with our project managers, strategists, other designers, developers, and anyone else involved in bringing an idea to life. You’ll almost always be working on at least a few projects at once, sometimes in different capacities.

We promise to itch both sides of your brain.

Possess (these traits) for Success

While this list isn’t entirely comprehensive, these things are pretty important to us.

  • You should know WordPress like the back of your hand. And the front of your hand. And the gap between your fingers.
  • An excellent eye for visual design, and a great instinct for UI and UX best practices
  • Experience designing responsive websites using industry-standard design tools (Figma, Sketch, XD, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of HTML & CSS, and best practices
  • Working knowledge of PHP, Javascript, particularly as it pertains to WordPress
  • Familiarity with responsive frameworks, like Bootstrap
  • Experience working with popular WordPress page builders, particularly Beaver Builder and Elementor
  • Bonus: Experience with other content management systems, Javascript frameworks, gremlins, app design

This isn’t a junior position. We need someone who knows what they’re doing, is able to work independently, take responsibility, and solve problems (even super weird ones). In terms of years of experience, we’re looking for more than 5, but less than 500. Even better if at least some of those years were at an agency, or running your own freelance business.

Benefits of Working With Us

A flexible work schedule. Unlimited vacation. Competitive pay. Participation in our annual shutdown (two weeks off, sometimes more, at the end of the year). Also, we celebrate major holidays by not working. Most importantly, you’ll be working on projects that really matter.

We welcome applicants from around the world, but you have to be willing to work hours that have at least a partial overlap with normal business hours in at least one of the US time zones.

Please include a link to your portfolio with your application.

WordPress Support Specialist

Yoko Co is looking for a WordPress Support Specialist to join our team. The things that you will tackle on a day to day basis will change, but the core responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of issues reported by our clients and seeing problems through to resolution.
  • Researching, troubleshooting, and identifying solutions to resolve customer issues.
  • Providing prompt and accurate feedback.
  • Managing our customer support queue and ensuring an exceptional level of customer care.

We take great care and pride in partnering with the right clients and the level of service we provide them. In this role, you will be an integral part of ensuring we continue to stand out as a leader in this industry.

As an ideal candidate, you should:

  • Be highly proficient in WordPress and possess the ability to understand, diagnose, and relay information to clients in an educational and simplified manner.
  • Be able to tackle the small amount of non-WordPress items that our client submit (this might mean stepping outside of your WP comfort zone).
  • Be self-motivated and take initiative. If you’re the kind of person who waits for someone to tell you what to do, this isn’t your kind of place.
  • Be a problem solver. We don’t expect you to single-handedly solve every problem that our clients send in, but we’ve found that everyone on our team has a problem-solving mentality.
  • Have a basic understanding of or familiarity with the following technologies: PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DNS, CDN, and caching (object and page).
  • Be able to juggle… multiple tasks at once, that is. You’ll need the ability to pivot quickly to complete, assign, and follow up on a variety of tasks each day.
  • Have a “can-do attitude” and be willing to jump in and try something new to expand your skills and contribute to our greater good.
  • Be an avid learner. Half the fun of this job is learning what goes on behind the scenes to keep up with a constantly shifting market and our own quick-paced, rapidly evolving industry. You should be excited to share knowledge by educating and receiving education from others, both team members and clients.
  • Be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and still provide quality, detailed, and exceptional customer service to our clients.
  • Simply put, care about your work. As an agency, we know the impact we have on the world is through the way we amplify our clients’ impact. For that reason, we work only with people with whom we’re well-aligned. That goes for clients and team members.

Still intrigued?

Wow! We’re impressed… In exchange for these skills you’ll be rewarded with a very flexible work schedule, medical benefits, the option to telecommute as you’d like, great pay, unlimited leave, as well as participation in our annual shutdown (two, sometimes more, weeks off at the end of the year) and most federal holidays. Perhaps more importantly you’ll find yourself immersed in work that actually matters.

Think you’ve got what it takes? Great! In addition to sharing a favorite quote, please tell us something cool that you’ve learned recently. Big, small, nerdy, weird, or just plain fascinating… lay it on us! We like cool facts.

P.S. – It’s worth mentioning that if you join us, you’ll participate in our pursuit to positively impact the lives of 100,000,000 people by the end of 2020. It’s no small task, but we’re already at over 85,000,000 and with someone like you on the team? Our odds just got better.

Front End Developer (WordPress)

We’re searching for a front-end web developer who wants to build pixel-perfect layouts (often in WordPress) that help make the world a better place.

A Bit About Us

We’re a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with organizations who have a purpose beyond profit.

We’re a tight-knit team, and everyone works remotely. Our team is located all over the United States, and in Europe, South America, and Asia. We value an ownership mentality, we’ve got each other’s backs, and we pride ourselves on our company culture. We don’t micromanage, and we’re always looking for ways to do things better.

But enough about us, let’s talk about you!

The Position

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll work closely with designers, other developers, project managers, and strategists, to build neat stuff (lots of WordPress websites, but sometimes other things) for our clients and for ourselves. You’ll set up installs, write code, customize themes, set up custom post types, page builders, launch sites, and everything in between. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to project strategy, help create reusable codebases, and teach (and learn from) your team members.

Generally, you’ll be working on at least a few “big” projects at once, and also pitching in with other odds and ends as they arise.

Skills“R”Us

Here’s some of the stuff you’ll need to know/be able to do/enjoy:

  • Extensive knowledge of WordPress. The easy parts and hard parts.
  • Strong ability with HTML5 & CSS3. Clean, fast code should make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  • Experience with PHP and Javascript, particularly as they pertain to WordPress.
  • Deep knowledge of popular WordPress page builders, particularly Beaver Builder and Elementor, to build dynamic layouts and integrate them with custom post types and custom fields.
  • A general technical knowledge of SEO, accessibility, and performance optimization.
  • You should have a minimum of a few years of experience. We want someone who has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of front end development and knows how to tell them apart.
  • A decent eye for UI/UX best practices. You won’t be designing, but sometimes you might have to “wing it” and do something like laying out a form or setting up a mega menu that isn’t super confusing.
  • Bonus: Experience working at an agency, or running your own freelance website business.
  • Extra Bonus: Experience with other non-WordPress content management systems, Javascript frameworks, and covert underwater demolition.

Some Pretty Neat Things About Working Here

A flexible work schedule. Unlimited vacation. Competitive pay. Participation in our annual shutdown (two weeks off, sometimes more, at the end of the year). Also, we celebrate most major holidays by not working. Most importantly, you’ll be working on projects that really matter.

We welcome applicants from around the world, but you have to be willing to work hours that have some overlap with normal business hours in at least one of the US time zones.

Please include a link to your portfolio with your application.

Digital Designer / Art Director

Do you have the ability to create beautiful, user-friendly designs using only the power of your mind1? Would you like to use your creativity to save baby animals, fight wildfires, and contribute to social justice2? If yes3, you have clicked on the right job posting.

A Bit About Us

We’re a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with organizations who have a purpose beyond profit. We use the web to make the world a better place.

We’re a tight-knit team, and everyone works remotely. Our team is spread across the United States, in Europe, South America, and Asia. But enough about us, let’s talk about you!

Your New Job

You’ll work with other designers, developers, project managers, strategists, copywriters, and whoever else we can find, gathering their insight, feedback and knowledge, to create things that look spectacular, inspire users, and drive action. Often, you’ll be doing wireframes, moodboards or mockups for websites or web apps, but logo design, branding, icons, annual reports, and anything else that needs to look good are fair game, too. In other words, you need to have an excellent eye for web layouts, but also be versatile enough to handle anything else that comes up.

Typically, you’ll be working on multiple projects at once, so you’ll need to be able to switch gears quickly, juggle multiple deadlines, and be accountable for your own work. Since we’re a small team, sometimes you may need to do some a bit of light front-end dev, too.

What It’ll Take

This list doesn’t cover every trait or skill you’ll need to succeed, so we encourage you to use your aforementioned mind powers to fill in the blanks.

  • An excellent eye and instinct for design
  • A portfolio that shows a proven track record of design work that looks good and sparks action
  • A strong understanding of design and usability best practices
  • Experience with UI/UX design, logo/identity design, and graphic design
  • Strong ability with layout design tools like Figma, Sketch, or XD, as well as Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • The ability to move fast, and consistently tap into your creativity under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Experience creating wireframes, moodboards, and design concepts
  • Comfortability with HTML, CSS and a general understanding of other technologies like Javascript and PHP
  • Experience working with WordPress, particularly with visual page builders like Beaver Builder or Elementor
  • Bonus: Experience presenting design concepts to clients, and providing feedback, guidance and leadership to other designers and team members
  • More Bonus: Video editing and animation experience

This is not an entry level position. Ideally, you’ll have spent time working at an agency, or running your own freelance business. In terms of years of experience, we’re looking for more than 5, but less than 500.

Sales Assistant / Proposal Writer

A wordsmith and connector of people!

We are looking for someone to fill a role that goes by many names: Relationship Manager, Sales Assistant, Business Development Associate, Proposal Writer, and the list goes on. We can talk about the specific title a bit further into our journey together, but here are some questions to tell if this role would be a good fit for you:

Are you energized by finding and meeting new people and good at developing relationships?

Do you possess the writing chops to tee up a variety of paperwork to include estimates, proposals, SOWs, and MSAs?

Can you be an excellent liaison between our team and prospective clients to provide solutions to some of their most important problems via their web presence strategy (mostly website design and ongoing marketing and consulting efforts) that delivers tangible results?

If you just exclaimed, “Heck yes!” then keep reading.

As an ideal candidate, you should:

  • Have an understanding of technology as it pertains to website design and development and related fields like marketing automation, social media marketing, search engine marketing, and media.
  • Be self-motivated and take initiative. If you’re the kind of person who waits for someone to tell you what to do, this isn’t your kind of place.
  • Be a problem solver. While we don’t expect you to have to solve any of the technical challenges prospective clients might have, we find everyone on our team has a problem-solving mentality.
  • Have a “can-do attitude” and be willing to jump in and try something new to expand your skills and contribute to our greater good.
  • Be an avid learner. Half the fun of this job is learning what goes on behind the scenes in new client industries and keeping up with a constantly shifting market and our own quick-paced rapidly evolving industry. You should be excited to share knowledge by educating and receiving education from others, both team members and clients.
  • Have an eye for quality presentation and a passion for detail. Your work will be the first work a client sees. Do you have the ability to take technical words and turn them into intriguing proposal presentations? Do you have the eye for details to make sure each “i” is crossed and each “t” is dotted? You should have the ability to produce great-looking proposals that also are spot on.
  • Simply put, care about your work. As an agency, we know the impact we have on the world is through the way we amplify our clients’ impact. For that reason we work only with people with whom we’re well-aligned. That goes for clients and team members.

Planning on tossing your hat into the ring? Awesome! In addition to listing your favorite movie, please include some writing samples in your email that will showcase your style and ability to create estimates, proposals, and statements of work. Cool? Cool.

P.S. – It’s worth mentioning that if you join us, you’ll participate in our pursuit to positively impact the lives of 100,000,000 people by the end of 2020. It’s no small task, but we’re already at over 91,000,000 and with someone like you on the team? Our odds just got better.
